As our nation approaches America 250, the semiquincentennial of the United States, those words feel especially timely. The arts have always helped shape the American story, not only reflecting who we are, but imagining who we can become.

Throughout our country’s history, artists, musicians, writers, performers, and cultural organizations have challenged us to think more deeply, care more fully, and dream more boldly. The arts preserve our histories, elevate untold stories, strengthen communities, and create spaces where people can gather across differences. They are not separate from the future of America; they are essential to it.

At ArtsBuild, we see this every day in classrooms, neighborhood arts programs, galleries, theaters, festivals, and public spaces throughout Chattanooga and Hamilton County. We see it in the work of artists who continue creating despite uncertainty and in the audiences and supporters who continue showing up because they understand that creativity is vital to a healthy democracy and a thriving community.

These are challenging times for many in the arts sector. Funding pressures, uncertainty, and growing divisions can make the path forward feel difficult. But the arts have endured through every chapter of our nation’s history because creativity, expression, and community are deeply human needs.

As we look toward America 250, and beyond, let’s continue building a future shaped by imagination, compassion, and hope. Thank you for believing in the arts and for helping ensure that creativity remains part of the Greater Chattanooga region’s story for generations to come.
