United We Create Concert

Jericho Brass Band and Chattanooga Clarinet Choir invite you to a special combined concert performance on Sunday, April 19, at the Chattanooga State Humanities Auditorium.

Chattanooga’s renowned British Style Brass Band, Jericho Brass, and the superb Chattanooga Clarinet Choir, will perform a wide range of songs and melodies that have been long time audience favorites and which highlight the superior musicianship of the members of both groups.  They will perform separately and collectively.  Both groups of musicians are comprised of auditioned musicians who are experts on their respective instruments, and together provide a combined musical resonance that will delight any audience in attendance.

Both groups have performing concerts in Chattanooga (and internationally as well) since 1998. The CLARINET CHOIR was formed by Jay Craven, a clarinetist who played with the Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra.  Clarinets such as the Eb and Bb clarinets and larger clarinets including the unique Contra-Alto Bass Clarinet instruments are played by the 20+ members of the group.

The JERICHO BRASS BAND was formed by several brass band musicians who played British Style Brass Instruments. Brass Band instruments include the cornet (instead of trumpets), various British style horns, euphoniums, trombones and upright Bass (Tuba-like).

Musicians of both groups include both professionals, semi-professionals and music instructors in various Chattanooga middle and high schools. A few are (or have been) members of the Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra. Both Nicholas Hartline, director of the CHATTANOOGA CLARINET CHOIR, and David Butler, director of the JERICHO BRASS BAND, are expert, long term musicians in the Chattanooga music scene.

A variety of different music styles will be performed, including Marches (by John Phillip Sousa), contemporary tonal music, and the feature event will be from the universally known composer, Dimitri Shostakovich, called “Festive Overture”.
