This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Holmberg Arts Leadership Institute—two decades of inspiring and empowering arts advocates across Chattanooga. Since its founding in 2005, the Institute has graduated more than 300 individuals who have gone on to become leaders, founders, funders, and champions of the arts in our community.

Created in memory of A. William Holmberg, Jr., a passionate arts supporter and longtime board member of ArtsBuild, the Institute was designed to cultivate civic leaders who understand the value of the arts. Each year, participants take part in behind-the-scenes visits to cultural institutions, explore real-world case studies, and engage in discussions with community leaders on the issues shaping Chattanooga’s arts landscape.

What sets the Holmberg Institute apart is its unique blend of education, experience, and connection. Participants come from all walks of life—business, education, philanthropy, and the arts—but share a common goal: to strengthen the role of the arts in our city. The program helps them build the skills needed to serve as effective board members, volunteers, and advocates.

Over the past 20 years, Holmberg alumni have made a lasting mark. They lead arts organizations, serve on nonprofit boards, and support creative initiatives that make Chattanooga more vibrant and inclusive. Many credit the program with giving them the tools and confidence to get involved—and stay involved.

As we celebrate this milestone, we thank the graduates, supporters, and community partners who have made the Holmberg Arts Leadership Institute a cornerstone of Chattanooga’s cultural life. Here’s to the next 20 years of building passionate leaders and ensuring the arts continue to thrive for generations to come.
