ArtsBuild Announces Recipient of the 2019 Ruth Holmberg Arts Leadership Award

Warren Barnett will be honored during the 2019 Ruth Holmberg Arts Leadership Award presentation on Tuesday, March 12, 2019. ArtsBuild will host the event at the Hunter Museum of American Art from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Barnett is the founder and President of Barnett & Company, which has provided personalized investment council in Chattanooga for 35 years.

A native of Chattanooga and graduate of The McCallie School, Barnett went on to get accounting and business degrees from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and Vanderbilt University in Nashville, then had a career with investment firms in Washington, D.C. He returned to his hometown in 1982 to launch his own business and began a legacy of unwavering commitment to excellence.

Over the years his firm has given generously to support the community’s non-profit institutions, especially its many arts organizations. Some of his notable sponsorships include the Association of Visual Arts’ annual 4 Bridges Arts Festival, and the Chattanooga Symphony & Opera’s Masterworks Series. Arts organizations such as the Hunter Museum of American Art, the Chattanooga Theatre Centre, Sculpture Fields at Montague Park, and more than a dozen others, have been grateful recipients of his generosity and philanthropic gifts. In 2015, Barnett was named “Chattanooga Philanthropist of the Year” at the Association of Fundraising Professionals’ National Philanthropy Day Luncheon.
In addition to his wide-reaching financial support, Mr. Barnett has given generously of his time and expertise, by serving on numerous Boards and strategic planning committees. He also attends arts and cultural events regularly. He is an inspiring example of leadership in the arts in our community.

Lillie Wills was one of several people who nominated Barnett for the award. “As Founder and President of Barnett & Company, Warren has long distinguished himself in the Chattanooga community as an esteemed businessman who is widely recognized as a passionate advocate and supporter of the arts,” says Wills.

As a long-time supporter of the arts, ArtsBuild is proud to honor Warren Barnett as the 2019 recipient of the Ruth Holmberg Arts Leadership Award. “This is the sixth year for this award. Each year we proclaim that all recipients to date are exemplary, and wonder how we might find a candidate for the coming year which will fit the bill. Well, Warren does indeed do that!” says ArtsBuild President Dan Bowers. “He is an outstanding arts leader and certainly deserves this recognition.”

ArtsBuild established this annual award in 2014 as the Arts Leadership Award to recognize an individual who has made significant contributions to the arts in Chattanooga and is actively engaged in the cultural life of our community. The first award recognized Ruth Holmberg for her extraordinary support of the arts and cultural community in Chattanooga over seven decades. The award has borne Mrs. Holmberg’s name since that first year.

The 2019 Ruth Holmberg Arts Leadership Award is sponsored in part by Henderson Hutcherson & McCullough. Tickets for the event will be available beginning in January.
